Inside/Out Style for an Accomplished Teenager in Need
When 17-year-old Kelly Barefield won the nine-state regional competition for Boys & Girls Clubs' "Youth of the Year," she earned a trip to Washington, DC. She was one of five regional winners, representing 4.6 million youth. While in DC, Kelly was scheduled to speak before Congress, meet with business leaders from Fortune 500 companies, appear on the Today Show, and meet with the President of the United States in the Oval Office. The challenge was that Kelly came from a family of five children with an unemployed single mom who was struggling to make ends meet. Kelly had essentially no professional clothes appropriate to wear.
Macy's generously provided a $500 gift card for Kelly, but she was overwhelmed with where to even begin. That was when Patricia Gorham offered to help – she was amazing. Within the first two minutes of their meeting, there was a connection. Patricia has a rare gift of making everyone feel like they are talking to a long-time friend.
She was immediately able to assess the right colors and style that would enhance Kelly's wonderful features and give her the self-confidence she would need. After an appraisal of Kelly's wardrobe, they were off to Macy's for an intensive shopping spree. The challenge was to work within the limited budget to find outfits for numerous press appearances, speaking engagements, and special events. The clothes had to range from a casual picnic with dignitaries to meeting the President and Fist Lady. Patricia provided an event-by-event checklist for what shoes went with which outfit – down to earrings and belts, and including back-up combinations in case something was stained or damaged.
Kelly was stunning. At every setting she was the one people remembered. The combination of the clothes with her effervescent personality gave her the unstoppable pride and confidence that culminated in asking the leader of the free world for a hug, then to sit behind his desk. He answered with: "Absolutely, Madam President."
Patricia Gorham has the rare ability to find the right clothes for any individual that can unleash their inner style and unique voice.
